Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify hallmark clinical features of Pendred syndrome, including bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, goiter, and potential hypothyroidism, to support early clinical suspicion and prompt evaluation.
Differentiate Pendred syndrome from other genetic and environmental causes of syndromic and nonsyndromic hearing loss by integrating clinical, radiologic, and genetic findings.
Screen at-risk individuals and family members based on autosomal recessive inheritance patterns and the presence of early-onset hearing loss or thyroid abnormalities to facilitate timely diagnosis and counseling.
Coordinate long-term follow-up care with the interprofessional healthcare team that includes regular hearing and thyroid monitoring to optimize patient outcomes.
