At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia who are appropriate candidates for fibric acid therapy.
Assess for signs of myopathy, hepatotoxicity, and gallstone risk (especially when used with statins) in patients who are on fibric acid therapy.
Screen for contraindications, such as hepatic or severe renal impairment, before initiating therapy with fibric acid derivatives.
Implement effective collaboration and communication among interprofessional team members to enhance outcomes and treatment efficacy for patients who may benefit from fibric acid pharmacotherapy.
